Moral Issues And Concerns

The People of God need to be sure that our voices are heard in local, state, and federal government.  The resources on this page will help your voice be heard.

Mission Statement:  We are a group of believers of Christ who believe in defending traditional family values and our own religious liberties.  We acknowledge our freedom of expression of religion, given to us 1st by our Creator, Jesus Christ and 2nd by our founding fathers through our Constitution's 1st Amendment.  One of our purposes is to support legislation which defends these traditional family values and religious liberties.

Our Main Issues of Concern:  Defending the sanctity of life, defending traditional marriage, defending against expansion of "Hate Crime" and "Employment Non-Descrimination" legislation, social and economic justice, racial reconciliation, and parents rights.  Click here to read more about these issues.

Lowlights: As Governor looks for $500M in cuts… CHRISTIANS BEWARE! A Senate Select Committee on Budget and Tax Reform are looking at ALL TAX EXEMPTIONS in NYS!  This could have a HUGE impact on ministries across the State!

Senator Gillibrand (along with the president) is pushing several gay agenda policies at once…from the repeal of “Don’t ask, don’t tell” military policy, to Hate Crimes legislation which passed the Federal House yesterday. The president over the weekend promised to repeal The Defense of Marriage Act, stripping the states of any restrictions of Gay Marriage.

Many of you are receiving this message for the first time… this is the update that is posted on Faithtemple.net Moral Issues and Concerns on a weekly basis.

Influencing Legislation and Legislators for the Lord Jesus Christ

ACTIVITY

This week Governor Paterson sought to placate his political allies with an order that bolsters special rights for transgender people. New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms (NYCF) opposes Governor Paterson's recently-signed Executive Order No. 33, which mandates that state agencies provide special rights and privileges to individuals who choose to dress or identify themselves as members of the opposite sex.

As a pro-life, Christian organization, NYCF upholds the inherent value and worth of all people - including persons who identify as transgendered.  However, there simply is no need for state agencies to provide special rights and protections to individuals who choose to dress or identify themselves as members of the opposite sex.

Executive Order No. 33 is a watered-down version of the proposed Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (also known as "the Bathroom Bill"), which did not survive the committee process in the New York State Senate earlier this year. This executive order represents yet another attempt by Governor Paterson to impose a liberal social agenda on New Yorkers.

NYCF Executive Director, Rev. Jason J. McGuire, made the following comments, "It appears that Governor Paterson is simply trying to get back in the good graces of same-sex and transgender rights advocates following the resounding defeat of his same-sex marriage legislation earlier this month. Given the difficult challenges currently facing our state, Governor Paterson should be focused on fiscal matters.  Placating political allies is not a valid purpose for an executive order.  The Governor should immediately reverse course."

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Please remember to pray for our ministry founder and senior lobbyist, Rev. Duane Motley. Duane has been feeling a little under the weather as of late and was recently diagnosed with gall stones. On Tuesday, December 22, Duane will be undergoing surgery to remove his gall bladder. At NYCF we are praying for a speedy recovery, and expect that Duane will be back to 100% in time for the legislative session beginning January 6, 2010.
