Back Pack Sunday August 2006
Video Clip:
Faith Temple's heart for families and children reached way beyond "us four and no more" this fall as we collected back packs and piles of school supplies to bless people in our community.  Back-to-school time is stressful for every family but, for many, it can be an enormous financial challenge, as well.  Faith Temple understands that and we put the word out that we were ready to help!
Many, many guests arrived on August 27th for the 11:00 a.m. service. As the service concluded,  the parents picked up their children at KidzRock children's church and then the big event began!  219 back packs filled with school supplies (notebooks, loose leaf paper, pens, pencils, crayons, highlighters, and a Bible) were given away.
Of course, we knew that it would be getting late and everyone would be HUNGRY, too,  so we had a cookout in the parking lot for the whole crowd.  800 hotdogs and 1000 bags of chips & drinks were happily consumed.  Everyone had a wonderful time and there was a resounding sense of "let's do this again!!!" Giving is fun!
One little girl was overheard saying "This church is awesome!", as she dug through the "treasures" in her new bookbag!   That did it for us.  She's what it's all about.
Thanks to the Democrat & Chronicle for giving us a "Thumbs Up" for Back Pack Sunday. And thank you to all our donors & volunteers for their help & support.
